RONALD, WILLIAM (1926- ) Mr. Ronald (born William Ronald Smith)
studied at O.C.A. under Jock MacDonald, Carl Scheafer, Will
Ogilvie, and George Pepper. He organized the Painters Eleven and
they held their first show at Robert's Gallery. He studied under
Hans Hoffmann and moved to New York, where he got a contract with
the prestigious Kootz Gallery. When the movement changed to Pop
Art, Kootz wanted him to change his style but Ronald wouldn't. So
they parted company with harsh words. He moved back to Toronto
in 1965 and painted and exhibited until his death. His work often comes
up at auction.
